Here are some other ways to save money and energy this season:

1. Clean furnace filters once a month during the heating season. Dirty filters restrict airflow and increase energy use.
2. Use your ceiling fan. Switching fans to clockwise rotation creates an updraft that sends warmer air pooled near the ceiling back into the living space.
3. Lower the temperature of your water heater to 120 degrees. Most people barely notice the difference.
4. Lower the thermostat. For every degree lower you'll save between 1 and 3% of your heating bill.
5. Caulk and weatherstrip. Simple leaks can reduce home energy efficiency by 5 to 30% a year. It pays to seal open spaces along windows and doors.
6. Put on a sweater. You'll feel cozier and save energy!
