Bell Explorers
The Bell Police Explorer Program was established in the late 1980's. The Bell Police Explorer program provides special training to Bell youth to prepare them for a career in law enforcement.Training includes elements of discipline, self-control, physical fitness, military drill, and academics.

Applicants to the Bell Explorer program must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Be 14 years through 18 years of age (junior cadet program is for candidates 11-13 years of age)
  • Have at least a 2.0 grade point average
  • Have no record of serious arrests or convictions
  • Complete a Bell Explorer Application
  • Obtain a medical examination
  • Attend and graduate from the Explorer Academy
  • Maintain good moral character
  • Demonstrate a willingness to serve and participate in explorer activities
Bell applicants accepted in the Explorer Program must attend the Explorer Recruit Academy. The Academy teaches recruits police academics, physical-fitness training and military drill, all taught by police officers and explorers. The explorer recruits must graduate from the Academy prior to wearing the law enforcement explorer uniform.

Explorers perform police-related functions that assist civilian and sworn personnel. The Explorer Program encourages youth to evaluate a career in law enforcement. Recently, four graduates of the Bell Explorer Program have been recruited by the Bell Police Department.
